Our Place

I love the beach - any beach will do, but Walnut Beach in Ashtabula, Ohio is my very favorite.  It is the beach where I spent my summers growing up.  So when my daughter told me she had chosen Walnut Beach as the thing that was meaningful to her personally for inspiration for big art project, I was over the moon.  She told me she chose it because it was "Our Place."

She's making a mosaic quilt wall hanging which will be, I'm sure, wonderful and the subject of a future layout.  But I wanted to put together a layout which captured the way I felt when she told me it was "our place."

Love the way those Pier frames let me use all my favorite embellishments.

Thanks for stopping.

Nostalgic For Summer

It is really fall in Ohio now.  But summer is my favorite time of the year.  And I already miss it.  Luckily, I have some summer pictures to play with.  I thought I'd share a layout I did recently that brings back that summer feeling.

Early morning is one of my favorite times to visit the beach.  It is so quiet and beautiful. I tried to capture that feeling on this layout, A New Day.

Thanks for stopping by.  Hope you have a terrific Thursday.

Printshop!

I love everything Shanna Noel does -  I always learn something in her blog posts and her layouts are just wonderful.  Her use of color and the way she puts projects together always inspires me.  So last week, when Studio Calico announced a new mid-realease where she served as the creative lead, I was over the moon.  And when I saw all the great colors and embellishments, everything went on my "must have" list.  The collection will be out in October and you can be sure I'm saving my pennies.

Have a great Monday!

Paper Bakery Sketch Challenge and Life Paper Scrapbook Color Challenge

I haven't had time or motivation to scrap lately, but today I found myself hanging out in my scrap room.  I got a couple things done.  One was the Paper Bakery Sketch Challenge.  It was a fun sketch to play with.  Here's the sketch:

I turned it 90 degrees and went to work on a quick and easy soccer layout.  The color challenge at Life Paper Scrapbook made picking papers quick and easy.  Here's what I came up with.

This is one of my favorite soccer pictures of all time. It captures all the emotion Nicholas felt when he finished his last game for his high school team.   I wanted to create something simple and striking to highlight the photo.  So I only used three patterned papers, but chose bold colors and created lots of dimension by layering pieces and adding embellishments on top and between layouts. This is one of my favorite soccer pictures of all time - it captures all the emotion Nicholas felt when he played his last game for his high school team.

Thanks for looking - hope you had a great Saturday!
